Added context for the non-tech crowd to explain the downvotes. Proton checks all the boxes, EU based (swiss), good platform that is working towards being a unified google services replacemnt. For most people I do still recommend them, I quite like their software.

But for the socially concious nerd, their CEO put their foot in their mouth on the artist formerly known as twitter late last year, and that damaged their user bases trust in them (no policy changed, they just stated opinions that were very out of touch with their US user base)

There is a lot of nuance to the issue, im glossing over a lot and I feel it gets blown out of proportions on Lemmy.

They claim 20k, which is nice, but noone will believe it will stay that way. Given the [gestures broadly to everything] they likely will need to find an non-lithium based alternative battery before the reserves run dry, the price sky-rockets and then would-be buyers deal with scalper prices (not like thats much different than going to a dealership anyway).

This would have been a smash hit in 2022, but now its too little, too late.

But if they make it as real as possible, that would be a giga-chad legal move. (But illegal under the law that is being challanged)

If they can convince to anyone in the court room that the video is real evidence, then it proves their point. It would put Felon in a tough logical situation. He can continue his challange and the state will point to the deepfake of himself giving contradictory statements, or he can drop it and the state’s lawyers then did a crime, and they open them selves up to another lawsuit.

Its a bold move cotton, lets see if it plays out.
