I agree, my point is, we don’t need another app for this.
The StreetComplete functionality could be put on the OSM website… maybe even make it the default editor and make the current OSM editor the “advanced” one…
Edit: but don’t get me wrong - anything that can improve adoption of OSM is a great thing, totally agree on that point
But, you can edit directly on the OSM website… Ie On any device / OS… so…?
Totally agree - this is one of very few reasons where I’m happy to setup a “subscription” (ie just regular payments on my terms)
But not just throwing some cash at them expecting them to do it all, I also contribute back, ie Arch Wiki, project documentation, forums, (usable) bug reports, etc.
Fair point, but IMO it’s more than just the technical act of blocking, it’s highlighting to everyone that this is going on…
Some are happy to be tracked, cool, but, I’m fairly confident that millions of people aren’t even aware of it.
These articles barely scratch the surface of what can be done - for example, I presume you’re referring to loading a different OS, which would blow the minds of many users out there
But no mention of just disabling some of Google’s services running on the phone?
Alternative is TrackerControl - again a local VPN, but aimed at blocking trackers (which could then include ads)

Dark chocolate is the best.
IMO the Repairability scale should be the main (largest) indicator on the card… that’s the biggest impact in both TCO and environmental impact.
Not to mention how long it will take for cardreaders & ATMs / cash machines to be updated to work with this.
I can see this taking a long time, so as long as they move the whole infrastructure forwards, together, then it will better than developing the “eumasterpayvisapalcard” and then thinking about the end devices…
Hopefully with larger manufacturers turning to Linux, then the smaller components will have to work closer with Linux and develop better drivers.
There’s still a lot of reverse engineering required for laptop drivers.
