Supporting Israel’s genocide isn’t the only wrongdoing by this administration. There’s plenty to speak out against.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldOPto News@lemmy.world•House Minority Leader Jeffries, NJ Sen. Booker begin sit-in protest on Capitol steps21·4 days agoAbsolutely agree. We have been in need of change for decades. I’ve been actively trying to engage people in congressional elections and primaries for almost 30 years. That’s what needs to happen. The same people who complain about the appeasement Democrats and scream about term limits are the ones who fail to show up at the polls when we actually have a say.
Democratic midterms get ~20% turnout. Midterm primaries are even less. You know who always shows up? Retirees, and they always pick the more conservative candidates.
David Hogg is a Parkland School shooting survivor that was just named the Vice Chair of the DNC. He’s finally doing something about this from the inside. He allocated $10M to congressional midterm primaries to get out the centrist deadwood and help elect progressives to create a real opposition party for the working class. I’m actually hopeful the message will finally get out after shouting from the rooftops for decades.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldOPto News@lemmy.world•House Minority Leader Jeffries, NJ Sen. Booker begin sit-in protest on Capitol steps31·4 days agoI agree they’re not all good. It’s when people paint them all with one brush and refuse to acknowledge good action when I call bullshit. Be loyal to your ideals, not your party.
What Booker and Jeffries are doing by giving the microphone to people on social programs on the steps of the Capitol will reach many more citizens than shouting into an echo chamber. I applaud that. I’m not defending every vote they’ve ever cast, I’m simply recognizing a good action.
The pessimism on here is so diseased that people don’t even seem to have their own ideals other than ‘Democrats bad.’

disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldOPto News@lemmy.world•House Minority Leader Jeffries, NJ Sen. Booker begin sit-in protest on Capitol steps53·4 days agoI completely agree. There are a lot of comments that just seem to find a way to keep people down on Democrats, even when they do the right thing. Many of them were the ones shouting Genocide Joe last year. Plenty of them are accelationist leftists or possibly even right-wing propagandists just trying to keep people from a blue wave next November.

If he’s championing Christianity, so he should respect all of its sects.
You and I both know he’s full of shit, and just doing this to tighten his grip on the Bible Belt. All the more reason I feel compelled to call out his hypocrisy when it’s visible.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldOPto News@lemmy.world•House Minority Leader Jeffries, NJ Sen. Booker begin sit-in protest on Capitol steps166·5 days agoHow is protesting cuts to Medicaid and social programs helping those you listed, and not benefiting you and me?
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldOPto News@lemmy.world•House Minority Leader Jeffries, NJ Sen. Booker begin sit-in protest on Capitol steps28·5 days agoHe spoke like an honest and unpolished person. He read countless letters of concern from his constituents regarding this administration, told relevant personal anecdotes of his father’s battle with Parkinson’s disease, and focused heavily on America’s previous challenges and triumphs over oppression while drawing similarities to the current state of our nation. It was actually quite moving.

Bleach is quite effective at cell death through protein denaturation. The pesky problem of wanting to keep our other cells alive is the reason we don’t use it internally.
