In Q4 2024 alone, Tesla earned $692 million from selling regulatory credits or carbon credits, accounting for nearly 30% of its quarterly net income of $2.33 billion.

At least for now, they’re keeping their financial head above water even without carbon credits. Of course, no business would willingly throw away 30% of its net income.

The big thing for them is that those credits are free profit. Other car companies have to buy them to make up for their ICE cars. Tesla doesn’t sell a single ICE car, so everything they make comes with a credit. Mind you, as the market transitions away from ICE, those will naturally evaporate from the company’s ledger.

Well, we do know of several political appointees who leaked classified information. Didn’t even need a polygraph; they just told a journalist.

I don’t think that’s possible. Not to the degree that would rebuild trust in a reserve currency. Once that money starts moving to something else, it’s gone. There would need to be a big incentive to come back, and it’s not clear what that would be.

The change would have to happen before any major moves happen. But then, just the fact that US policy is flip flopping so quickly is itself reason to mistrust it as a reserve currency. How do you know it won’t flip right back?

The whole thing is a giveaway for China to step into America’s role on the world stage. I don’t think that can be undone at this point. It’s obvious that the US is not a stable, rational trade negotiator. Who wants to have their currency reserves under a country like that?

A 150-200mm drone frame wouldn’t have that kind of range in its battery, anyway. There are useful drones in the war that are even smaller than that.
