That’s the point I was making. In Australia, wire transfers through your bank are free, attached to a phone number or email address (rather than account numbers), almost always instantaneous and 24/7.

Not really. Zelle seems to just be US banks implementing the payment and bank-to-bank transfer systems that other countries already have. Except, at least for Australia with our ‘Osko’ system it has the involvement of our Reserve Bank and is mandated to be supported universally, whereas Zelle is completely private. The traditional lack of that bank-to-bank transfer ability is why apps like Venmo and Cash App have been popular in the US, which I think explains why Zelle has had an app until last month, as consumers expect that, even though it’s owned by the major US banks.
Taler on the other hand seems to be “What if crypto but with fiat currency and also the recipients aren’t anonymous”.
By doing what? You said something that didn’t make sense, and I questioned it.
But if you wanted to get into the whole anti-2nd amendment stuff, well, I’m glad we have stricter laws here. I never had to fear dying from a shooting in high school, I never had to go through metal detectors, or deal with cops on campus. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Are you calling me one? I’m an Australian socalist/greens voter 😂
As an Australian, did you want to maybe speak for yourself there mate? We haven’t experienced any major regressions of progressive policies or rights, and just saw our right wing of government shrink to a record low when they tried to import Trump’s culture war schtick. Historically our right wing has actually been fairly moderate. It was a right-wing government that instituted aggressive gun control laws in the 1990s, and a right-wing government that (for better or worse) was in power when same-sex marriage was legalised in the 2010s.
If anything, Australia is literally the poster child for “How Not to Inch Towards Fascism” that other countries should aspire too.
You do realise that automatic rifle ownership by civilians is incredibly illegal in the US, right? And has been for almost 100 years… An AR-15 is not an automatic rifle.
The Constitution only has meaning because you all say it has meaning. All of its enforcement comes down to the Executive branch. Congress doesn’t have enforcers, the Judiciary doesn’t have enforcers. Systematically, all of the people in the Executive branch that would stop this are being forced out. The people in power have decided the Constitution has no meaning, and it’s too late to stop them. Killing some ICE agents is what they want so they have the justification to declare martial law and subjugate the entire country by force.
Yeah I mean, rule 1 is that it needs to run Linux, so I don’t think a microcontroller like an ESP or Arduino is going to qualify…
Because lots of people don’t have an insert key?
I think that’s not quite right, otherwise you could say that Rufus is the same. Ventoy is a Live USB tool that allows you to drag and drop ISOs onto a storage device and boot them without needing to image the device at all. It has its own interface that it boots into, that lets you select which ISO to then boot up.
You’re right, I misspoke with the term anonymous, it’s actually pseudononymous the same as Lemmy or Reddit are. It’s not like there is a published index of names to wallet addresses.
