Definitely not … I’m 100% Indigenous Canadian and I was born and raised here … but I’m a brown long haired Native guy and I would not go into the US right now.

If you’re white you have a good chance of nothing happening … but a higher chance than ever before of being arrested because of something border guards read on your mobile phone or social media posts.

        You’re absolutely right.

But even white women are getting detained for two weeks before being sent home. If it can be like that for them, how much worse can it be for everyone else. She managed to get access to another detainee’s phone and got her story out too. How many others are detained right now that we’ll never hear about…

i can’t get a suntan before a sunburn, i grew up in the US south, i live in canada now, and there’s no chance in hell you’re getting me within eyeline of a US border agent.

edit - once you’re at the border, your fate is pretty much at the whim of an idiot with authority.

This isn’t even that big of a step from before. Went abroad with a white passing friend named Alejandro YEARS ago. When we came back, it was made clear that US customs had a quick line and a brown line, and my friend was in the latter. I was through in 10 minutes or less, wondering what happened to my friend, who was told he wasn’t allowed to use his phone, for the better part of an hour

As a white, cis, hetero, Christian male, I don’t know even know if I’d be willing to go to the states! Maybe if it was for work, but even then I’d probably push back.

I see a possible scenario where I cross the border for a day trip (go to a show, a game, or even just dinner), and can’t leave. I know it’s not very likely, especially given my privileged, but if that situation came to pass, that would be hugely disruptive. Before 2025, I’d say that scenario is almost impossible, as Canadians could even get home after 9-11.
