I think this is because the US doesn’t like to be held to any standards that aren’t under its complete control. They are going to have to get used to that as their share of global power wanes
@AlpacaChariot this is just downright impossible. Whenever there is a deal there is some concession to make on both sides. And the previous US politicians understood this, but still managed to get favourable terms for them. The way Trump wanted to just grab it all just made it impossible for the US to negotiate any further the way it did.
