I guess my real question is, how will this beat the millions of dollars Microsoft, Google etc spend lobbying EU lawmakers?
Is there any step in the process where this is outlawed or this practice is limited?
I’m not sure how much lobbying will help if the orange man and his nazi are wrecking havoc. Would be tough to accept a deal and just go back to business as usual. But who knows, maybe our politicians are just that dumb and our industry leaders too weak to lobby on their own.
My comments are mainly based on this: https://geekdom.social/@jospoortvliet/113866519934816580
which is in response to
“There are no known credible offerings from European providers,” reads an internal Commission document seen by Euractiv.
Which Nextcloud are saying is the result of lobbying from Microsoft
Yes, but @nextcloud@mastodon.xyz isn’t alone anymore. They can band together with other signatories of the open letters and those who want to see the EuroStack happen to pay for lobbyists. This is a moment to unite forces against common enemies. It’s even in their (the signatories) business interest to play together. There a problably hundreds of tech companies in the EU that could each pay for a lobbyist each - maybe 2.
