An EU-UK security and defence pact is likely to be the centrepiece of a summit next month.

The UK could soon reach a deal to join the EU’s €150 billion defence joint procurement scheme, Ursula von der Leyen said in London on Thursday.

That’s because medium and small states cannot stand up to larger ones without forming alliances. And, despite its many inefficiencies, NATO has been effective in that way.
