Somebody needs to design a kit to hook a Tesla vehicle battery up to solar panels like their Powerwall does. I’m sure there are plenty of people with solar panels out there that would love to add/expand battery backup at a reasonable price.
I’m outside Boston and I see a lot here as well…
But not even the OK half of that chart is set in stone unless you have an obviously American surname like Smith or Jones. You could be a white fifth generation American with a surname that sounds remotely middle Eastern, east European, etc. and you could be in for a rude awakening…
I won’t drive the cybertruck or any of the other newer generation X’s and S’s since they all have yolks instead of steering wheels. A few years back I was rear-ended by a drunk driver on a highway. With about 1/2 second warning I suddenly found myself spinning 360 degrees across 3 lanes, and I was trying my best to steer out of it. I seriously doubt I would have been able to do that with a yoke. My hands likely would have missed as I tried to reposition them.
The yokes, like so many other “features” seem like nothing more than glitz that Musk demanded to differentiate Teslas from other cars. If an independent authority tests yokes vs. wheels in situations like that crash and finds the yokes are as good or better then I’d consider driving a car with one. But given Musk is now trying to kneecap things like NHTSA I’m most definitely not going to hold my breath.
There are already a growing number of EV alternatives. I will definitely be looking at all of them a few years down the line when I decide to get rid of my Tesla.
And it will run perfectly fine on ten year old computer hardware using nothing but cameras in any manner of weather.
If Musk is removed AND major changes are made to the brand then Tesla might have a long term chance in the US market.
I bought a Tesla before the Musk craziness was in full display, and I can honestly say I wouldn’t buy another one (or recommend them to others) unless they seriously redesigned the physical controls, and focused more on truly useful software features. Not just games, “fart mode”, and a full self driving system that’s been promised for a decade now…
It would take literally years of positive actions on his part to try to rebuild his trust. But I don’t think Tesla has years at this point given the flood of EV options that are becoming available from established automakers as well as other startups like Rivian.
